Crafts of Hearts n Hands started initially under the name of Threads of Hearts n Hands. It was a small non-profit project in 2005 to support the deaf and disabled, and needy village women in southern China financially by purchasing handicrafts made by them.
We pay the price quoted upfront directly to the artisans, to ensure sustainability and continuity in our supports and commitments to the local artisans, we have evolved to a small business with the following objectives:
To assist the disadvantaged and marginalised village/tribal artisans
- Provide a platform to market handicrafts so that we can continue to buy more from artisans.
- Promote artisans’ economic self-sufficiency in the long term.
- Bring hope and confidence to the underprivileged village artisans.
To promote Fair Trade principle such as:
- Providing equal employment opportunities for all people, particularly the most disadvantaged.
- Engaging in environmentally sustainable practices.
- Being open to public accountability.
- Providing financial and technical assistance to producers whenever possible.
Crafts of Hearts n Hands is a member of Fair Trade Association of Australia & New Zealand (FTAANZ).
What is fair trade?
To increase appreciation for traditional ethnic arts and crafts
- The colour, motif and material used in each handicraft reflect the skills, lifestyle and culture of the local artisans.
- Preserve the uniqueness of ethnic style in modern application of product design.
- Each and every piece of handicraft is exquisitely stitched or made by hand, so each piece is a master piece by itself and will varies slightly from the others.
When you buy our products, you are helping to achieve and support the above objectives.
“Do what you can, for whom you can, with what you have, and where you are.”
